This is a demo of Tech Rifle's (   • How To Make Desktop Look Awesome #9  ) setup working with Spotify.

Spotify requires some modifying on your part. I got it to work in my setup, but it was really tedious.

You have to edit the Player 1 & Player 2 scripts. Change each instance of "NowPlaying" to "WebNowPlaying"

Then locate a file called "Variables.inc", it should be located in "Documents\Rainmeter\Skins\Home\@Resources". Right click "Variables.inc" and select "Edit in Notepad." Replace "Player=xxxxx" with "Player=WebNowPlaying" and save & close.

You most likely also have to download and install the WebNowPlaying plugin:

Now, if you're using Spotify in your web browser, you might also need the WebNowPlaying browser extension:

But if you're using the desktop app, you'll have to do a bit more. This gets a lot more technical so brace yourself.

First, you may have to uninstall Spotify if you're using the Windows Store app, then download & install from Spotify's own website:

Then you'll have to patch Spotify with Spicetify:

Open Powershell, then copy and paste these commands, then press enter:


iwr -useb https://raw.githubusercontent.com/spicetif... | iex


This installs spicetify CLI and sets up config files. Should also install spicetify marketplace.

Then:


spicetify backup apply


This backs up Spotify’s default files & applies the default Spicetify theme (I think).

Next run:


spicetify config extensions webnowplaying.js

spicetify apply


This should install the WebNowPlaying extension for Spotify app. It may tell you to run this command again:


spicetify backup apply


If so, do so. I did all this and it works without any issues. Like I said, it's pretty tedious, but worth it if you like to tinker.
