Hungary on Monday sharply criticised European Union plans to increase financial and military support for Ukraine, warning that further funding would prolong the war and risk direct escalation between Europe and Russia. Speaking ahead of an EU meeting, Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said the use of frozen Russian assets to arm Ukraine would amount to a serious provocation and accused some EU allies, including Poland, of acting as “war parties”. He said Hungary, together with Slovakia, was preparing legal action against EU measures it believes violate national sovereignty and threaten Hungary’s energy security.
