Alexander explains how to embellish furniture and decorate a home to give it character. He shares his sharpening techniques that he calls "sharpening on steroids." He applies these fast, precise sharpening methods every day that he carves. Demonstrations also include how to use carving gouges by hand, the old-fashioned way. Class topics include tool selection, wood grain issues, planning cuts, safe carving practices, clamping wood without damaging carvings, and how to use gouges more effectively. In this class, students learn how to carve wood in a traditional style. Alexander discusses how to think through a carving project to make it as efficient as possible.

While Alexander A. Grabovetskiy carves from early morning until late at night, it wasn't always this easy for him. Having been born in the Soviet Union, Alexander started learning ornamental wood carving when he was just six years old from his grandfather. By the age of sixteen, he was noticed by Vladimir Tokarev and taken under his wing, learning the art of carving true masterpieces. As his life seemed to be heading in the right direction, Alexander suffered one of the biggest setbacks of his life. He was arrested and sent to prison by the Soviet Government for refusing to join the Red Army and adhering to the Christian Faith. He was 21 when he was released from prison and had already established a successful architectural and ornamental wood carving business from prison. In 1996, Alexander, his wife Nadia, and their ten-month-old son Mark moved to America where he has become one of America's premier carvers and was selected as the International Carver of the Year in 2012 as well as the Woodworking Excellence Award in Turning, Carving, and Object d'Art award in 2015. Alexander’s intricate wall decorations and wood ornaments grace the walls of royal palaces.
