So it is not necessary that sugars only cause tooth decay. Any food that is stuck onto the tooth surface can cause or be part of tooth decay. However sugary food stuffs are sticky, and since they are sticky, they tend to stick to the tooth surface and are not easily washed away by the saliva or any fluids.
