Signed by Philadelphia's most famous jeweler, "Bailey Banks & Biddle," about 1880, this Georgian style long case or grandfather clock keeps excellent time.

The mahogany case has inlaid stringing and filigree panels of satinwood. There is a warp from age to the door. The old finish has warm patina and has been waxed and polished, so all that is needed to maintain its luster is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth.

The brass movement runs a week on a winding and strikes the hour. Iron weights and brass pendulum appear original. There is a hand painted moon dial plus second hand dial and calendar dial. The silver plated chapter ring is tarnished on the hand engraved dial, mounts are gold plated. The door has a working lock, there is a winding crank.

Bailey, Banks and Biddle was founded in 1832, and in 1900 created the present design of the Great Seal of the US and also designed the Congressional Medal of Honor.
