Moral injury is a psychological, social, and spiritual response to events that violate someone's deeply held values or moral beliefs. It can occur when someone: engages in an act that goes against their belief; fails to do something they believe is right; witnesses or learns about an act that goes against their beliefs; experiences betrayal from someone they trust; inability to assist someone who is suffering or harmed. Moral injury can lead to feelings of guilt, anger, contempt, and shame. It can also damage a person's sense of self, their ability to form relationships, and their perception of themselves as a good person.

This video is intended to help frontline staff in the homelessness field understand what moral injury is, look at examples of moral injury in the work, and provide ideas for helping staff impacted by moral injury.
