Trump's first impeachment - 2020

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer proposed an amendment on Jan. 21 that would require the Senate to subpoena additional documents from the Defense Department, relating to President Donald Trump’s correspondence with Ukraine and his decision to withhold U.S. military aid to Ukraine. The amendment read on the Senate floor would alter Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s “organizing resolution" that determines the rules of the trial. The House of Representatives impeached the president in December on two articles -- abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. The trial will determine whether Trump is convicted of those charges and will be removed from office, or acquitted.
