On October 16, 1986, it was announced that a Nigerian - Wole Soyinka - had been awarded the prestigious Noble Prize in Literature, becoming the first African,a and first Black person to bag the award.
Wole had heard the news in Paris, France, but had quickly made a dash home where he'd been received warmly by many at the airport.
Here, on the 24th, he chats with Bernard Pivot about his win.
