I can only imagine the overwhelming satisfaction this homeowner must feel walking into their new kitchen, which really must feel like a whole new house. Originally this home had a closed off kitchen. It had a wall direction in the front of it, and to the side of it, separating the living room from the kitchen, and also the dining room from it. We removed two walls creating a completely open floor plan on this level of the home.
Starting with Jay’s favorite sink, the single bowl, White Haven sink by Kohler. Surrounding that we have the hone Quartz slab countertop in Metropolis Grey by Arizona Tile. On the backsplash surrounding the windows we accented with white 3x6 tile in a Herringbone pattern. The windows were just as mismatched as the rooms they were in to begin with. We replaced two of them with identical Tuscany, white on white windows from Milgard.
As usual in our kitchens, we have large banks of drawers and cabinets filled with roll outs. Some for pots and pans, and others for spices and utensils.
On the far end of the kitchen, which was once an informal eating nook, we decided to give it a bit more style. Adding a small wrap around counter to a new wall, which use to be a railing, created a nice small nook for 2. A microwave, coffee and beverage center, both accented with cabinets that are routed out for glass, creates a stunning Magazine Quality touch to this already beautiful kitchen.
Between the living room and the kitchen, where we removed one of the walls, we added a 36” range with 6 burners, to the newly build peninsula. Topped with a custom range hood. Pendant lights flanking both sides of the hood adds a touch of romance. Extending the countertop allowed for yet one more small eating nook, or just a place for guests to sit while you bustle around your kitchen.
This homeowner provided his own flooring, but it wasn’t as simple as that. We had to rebuild parts of the subfloor and glue the flooring down! A 7.5” alder wood plank warms the space in its sable stain.
