Over half of all people are living paycheck to paycheck and the majority of them cannot afford an unexpected expense that pops up. This causes people to go further into debt and that is the ultimate catalyst to why the gig economy is growing at an exponential rate.

Even the New York Times recently acknowledged that the shift to freelancing (AKA working for multiple clients on YOUR terms) is the future in their recent interview of Upwork's CEO Hayden Brown.
