It is estimated that around 373 million Africans live in informal settlements and by 2050 that number will increase to around 1.2 billion. Sub-Saharan Africa has the highest share of informal settlement residents at 62% with rapid rates of urbanisation. This next insert focuses on the work being done by Stellenbosch University's Sustainability Institute to improve the living conditions for those living in informal settlements.
