Alta Canyon - The HIDDEN GEM of Northern Norway

Описание к видео Alta Canyon - The HIDDEN GEM of Northern Norway

Sautso, also referred as Alta Canyon, is a canyon (valley) along the Altaelva River in Finnmark County, Norway. It's located in Alta Municipality, just north of the Kautokeino Municipality border, this canyon stretches approximately 12 kilometers in length and reaches depths of 300 to 420 meters. It is the largest canyon in Northern Europe.
Alta Canyon is one of the best kept secrets of Northern Norway.

Me, my cousin and our dogs hiked to Alta Canyon on June 23rd (2024). The walking distance to the canyon was 7km. You have to walk the same trail back so the whole hike was about 14km. The hike takes about 3-4 hours.
We had to cross a few rivers along the way, and one river was so wide and deep and there were no stones to step on and no bridge, so we had to walk through the river, with the water reaching at least up to our knees.
We had our dogs with us, and the crossing was really challenging because my dog is afraid to swim.
But when we finally arrived to the viewpoint, it was all worth it.
The view of the canyon and the Alta river below was breathtaking.
