BlackboxMyCar Power 8 LiFePO4 Dash Camera Battery

I’ve tested quite a few dash cameras on the channel and one thing that really annoys me about some are how hard they are to learn to use and I’m not even getting into how some mount different, use different cables or power plugs. Well for the last little while I’ve been testing this little flat guy here and not only is this one of the most simple dash cameras I’ve had the opportunity to test but it also has some features that could make it one of the smartest cameras out there as well. This is the FineVu GX1000.

All right let's run through some specs first. The GX1000 is a dual channel dash camera Both cameras use the same 5.1 mp Sony Exmor R Starvis sensor with a resolution of 2560X1440p which is QHD, less than UHD but more than HD. They even has the same FOV so essentially they’re identical which is not that common on multi channel systems where most of the time, the 2 and 3rd channels usually get a lesser quality camera.

The main unit is really sleek so you can mount it right against the windshield, adjust the rotatable lens and its quite discreet. The unit is very simple to operate. Theres your SD card slot which can take up to a 64gb card, the power switch actually blocks the slot so when its powered on which is some added protection. On the top you have an input for power and rear camera. The front area facing you has 2 buttons, that’s it. One for saving a recording or turning on/off the Mic and the other is for wifi which is necessary since this has no screen but connecting is a cinch.

Here’s how we do it in realtime. All your settings can be adjusted, you can view or download footage onto your phone all from the app. Its very easy to use.If you choose to view it from your computer which is what I like to do sometimes or when I’m compiling footage for these videos, You can download their FineVu player app for PC or Mac. The player will display pretty well everything you want, Front camera, rear camera, speed and show your location from the GPS. The only thing that I’m not a big fan of is that you can only download 1 clip at a time so you can’t do a batch export. Also the clips are in AVI so if you're on a MAC like myself, even though you can see the different folders and clips in your finder, you can’t view them with quick look and only on the fine vu player and when they come into there, theres no separate folders so you have to just go by date and time. It's just not as convenient as it could be for Mac users.

Let's get into some of the smart features that the GX1000 has. First off there is a parking mode and in order to use it, the camera will either need to be hardwired with the supplied kit or plugged into a dedicated dash camera battery which I’ve done, I know many of you always ask about my dash camera battery so I will put a link to the battery in the video description. The GX1000 has what they call absolute parking mode which I’m a huge fan of, so it has a buffer so in the event of an accident or when it's triggered, it records 10 seconds before the event and 10 seconds afterwards. Without buffered recording if someone hit and ran, by the time the camera started recording it could be too late and they’d be long gone for the camera to get you.

You can also set it to time lapse and when it gets triggered it will record in 30fps. The 1000 also has a power saving parking which could be ideal for those that are parking for a longer period, maybe you're going on a trip or something. In this mode, you can get up to 2325 hours of coverage compared to about 27 hours on average. In this super saving mode, it will not have a buffer and will not use motion but just the g sensor. This mode can also be automatically activated because this has AI heat monitoring meaning if it gets too hot, where other cameras will just should down complete, this one will just go into the power sipping mode until the temps have cooled down so you still dont miss any events if they should happen. Unfortunately its winter time here so we can’t experience any of these super hot condition.

Sure there are other cams on the market that have more options in terms of different frame rates or resolutions or other customizable features, teh GX1000 has pretty figured it all out for you so perfect for those that want a set it and forget turnkey operation if that’s you then you should take a closer look at this camera system. It's seriously been a breeze using this dash camera. Most times when testing cameras there is use the odd issue with them but not this one so far. FineVu has done an excellent job with the hardware, software app making the user experience seamless which is what you want.
