Hilbre Island Walk

Описание к видео Hilbre Island Walk

The Hilbre Islands (/ˈhɪlbriː/ HIL-bree) are an archipelago consisting of three islands at the mouth of the estuary of the River Dee, the border between England and Wales at this point. The islands are administratively part of the Metropolitan Borough of Wirral. They are a Local Nature Reserve and are within the estuary Site of Special Scientific Interest. As of 2012, the islands have no permanent residents. The name is thought to derive from a chapel built on the Island and dedicated to St. Hildeburgh. During the summer months tourists travel by foot to the Islands from West Kirby. This is a short video of me walking over to islands, following the recommended route. Enjoy.
Before crossing please make sure you check the tide times.
As a rough guide, find out when the high tide is for the day you’re planning to walk over to Hilbre, it’s normally fine to head out 3 hours after a high tide.

Most walkers choose to head over the sands at low tide, once over on the island you must look to start heading back at least 3 hours before the next high tide.

If in doubt ask the coastguard who is normally situated in the car par by the marine lake.
