Rakhigarhi DNA Discovery: A Game-Changer in Indian History? 🧬🔍

Recent DNA analysis of a 4,500-year-old skeleton from Rakhigarhi, Haryana, has sparked fresh debate on the Aryan migration theory. According to a study published in Cell, the individual’s DNA shows a mix of ancestry from ancient Iranians and Southeast Asian hunter-gatherers—but no genetic traces of Steppe pastoralists (nomadic groups from Central Asia often linked to Aryan migration).

For decades, history books have suggested that Indo-Aryans arrived in India from the Steppe regions around 1500 BCE. However, this new genetic evidence challenges that view, raising important questions about the connection between the Harappan and Vedic cultures.

The study, titled "Ancient Harappan Genomes and the Origin of Modern South Asians", was conducted by an international team of geneticists, archaeologists, and historians, including scholars from Harvard Medical School, the CSIR-Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), and the Max Planck Institute.
