Let's chat.

Corporal Eric Casebolt, a police officer in McKinney, Texas, has been placed on paid administrative leave after being captured on video terrorizing Black teenagers at a pool party this past weekend. While initial reports stated that the police were called because there were 'too many Black people,' present, newer sources claim that a dispute between an angry parent/resident of the community and one of the pool party attendees is what actually caused the police to be called. The parent, who was white, told the pool party attendee, who was Black, that she and the rest of her friends (Black teenagers) needed to leave the pool and 'go back to their Section 8 housing,' before physically attacking the teenager.

When three officers from the McKinney Police Department arrived, including Casebolt, they aggressively pursued the Black partygoers ONLY, leaving many white attendees alone. One white partygoer revealed to Buzzfeed that she felt 'invisible,' due to the fact that the police did not address her at all; other video footage reveals police speaking calmly to white attendants, asking them to leave, while shouting, cursing, and handcuffing Black attendants.

Casebolt became particularly aggressive with a 14-year-old Black girl, whom he violently slammed onto the sidewalk by her hair before kneeling and then sitting on top of her. When two of her friends, Black male teenagers, attempted to come to her aid, Casebolt drew his service weapon on them. At that point, his fellow officers quickly, forcing him to holster the weapon.

This is just another in a long line of disturbing instances between Black people and police that have been caught on film. I find it hard to believe that Black people continue to think that moving out of the 'ghettos' and into affluent white neighborhoods will save them (many of the Black partygoers lived in the neighborhood); as shown here, groups of Black people in affluent and/or majority white neighborhoods are only seen as an even bigger threat. The fact that these were unarmed children also did not serve as a deterrent for police or neighbors who clearly still saw them as a menacing threat.

Racism is, and always will be, a disease of white people. No amount of living in their communities, going to their schools, marrying them, or 'extending a hand in love' will change or convince white people to see us as anything but subhuman. Black people must begin to do for self and rebuild our own communities.

Thanks for watching.
