The Tumbleweeds was formed in 1967 by two brothers from Kaatsheuvel in The Netherlands, Ad and Ton Masseurs, and some time later they added Dick van Krimpen, James Bordes and Manneke Jim Jaspers. Manneke was replaced shortly after by Laura Bordes, and the brother and sister of the founding members, Berry and Ine Masseurs, as well as a new bass player, John Koogje, joined the group. Their name was written as two words, Tumble Weeds, at times, but from 1974 onwards was changed to a single word. In 1973 they became the first European country group to perform behind the Iron Curtain when they toured Romania for 2 weeks. Their debut album, Tumble Weeds Favorites, was also recorded in the same year by Ine Masseurs (vocals and percussion), James Bordes (vocals and 12 string), Ad Masseurs (drums), John Koogje (bass) and Ton Masseurs (guitar, pedal steel, piano, dobro and banjo).
At the end of 1973 Ruud Hermans joined the group on vocals. In 1974 and 1975 they toured America and even performed at the Mecca of country music, die Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee. They were also nominated by the American CMA (Country Music Awards) in the categories Best Country Group, Best Country Instrumentalists, and Ine Masseurs as Best Country Singer. In 1974 John Koogje was replaced by Mickey de Boer on bass, and at the end of that year they recorded their award winning album Tumbleweeds with Ine Masseurs (vocals), Ruud Hermans (vocals), Ad Masseurs (drums), Mickey De Boer (bass), Berry Masseurs (rhythm guitar) and Ton Masseurs (guitar and pedal steel).
Their biggest hit was a version of the Merle Haggard penned song, Somewhere Between, which reached #1 in The Netherlands in 1975, and which resulted in them being awarded with a gold and platinum disc. The song entered the official Springbok Radio Top 20 in South Africa on 19 December 1975, reached #3 and charted for 16 weeks. Their next hit was It Might As Well Have Rained that reached #15 in The Netherlands in 1975.
After Ad Masseurs was involved in a serious motor car accident in 1977, things began to fall apart for the group. First Ruud Hermans left the group to pursue a solo career, and in 1980 Ine Masseurs decided to leave show business to attend to her family on a full-time basis. The group finally disbanded in 1982.
This song was released on 7" single in 1975.
