Spinning Reels versus Inline Spooler Reels | Ice Fishing Reels for Panfish

Описание к видео Spinning Reels versus Inline Spooler Reels | Ice Fishing Reels for Panfish

Spinning reels or inline spooler reels, which reel design is best for ice fishing panfish? We weigh the pros and cons of both spinning reels and spooler reels and discuss the situations where we prefer to use each. We share the advantages and disadvantages of both reels.

We prefer spinning reels when we are using 3-4 lb. test monofilament and using larger search lures like small spoons or some of the larger tungsten and soft plastic combinations. We like to use spinning reels whenever we have to get up and down fast. Generally, spinning reels do have a better drag and do fish faster.

We prefer spooler reels whenever we encounter a real finesse bite that requires lighter line like 1-3 lb. monofilament and smaller vertical or horizontal jigs and when we really need to manage line twist. We also have a tendency to use inline spooler reels in shallow water.

We point out that both reels can build up line twist. The notion that spooler reels don’t have line twist is often promoted but not entirely true. Spooler reels do have less line twist and keep line in better shape for longer periods of time but all line eventually becomes twisted or develops some memory.

We also discuss the advantage for changing line often when encountering finesse bites and how both reel designs compare and are useful for ice fishing panfish.
