The Matrix Transgender Allegory Explained | Film Theory

Lilly Wachowski confirmed in a Netflix video that The Matrix was intended as a Transgender allegory. Some trans people have theorized this for a while now but finally, after 21 years, it's canon.

I like probably most people didn't see this movie as anything to do with gender transformation, but then again, why would I? So looking back on it now, with all this new information, is The Matrix really a metaphor, for the transgender experience? Or is this just some people say to score woke points with the SJW crowd?

There were definitely more than a few things I noticed now, watching it with this in mind. Things on screen, dialogue being spoken, and even the story and plot itself. Also, I noticed that anytime they're in the Matrix, there's a green tint on the screen. Nothing to do with transgender, just something I noticed.

The Matrix is a sci-fi action film written and directed by Lilly and Lana Wachowski, who at the time were known as The Wachowski Brothers. The film centres around Thomas Anderson, a software developer who hacks computers at night under the name Neo.
