How to Build Your Own Sheep Headgate.

DIY Sheep Headgate. Repurposed hog farrowing crate becomes a headgate.

Handling equipment is needed for sheep just as much as it's needed for other livestock. We find ourselves handling the sheep flock multiple times a year. There are many tasks that need to occur to ensure a healthy flock. Without having a sheep headgate, these tasks are performed by sitting each ewe up and containing her to prevent her from moving.

After spending a full year of this approach as well as the flock size growing so quickly, we felt that this approach was becoming too difficult on our backs. This approach is very labour intensive.

At this time, we decided to repurpose a hog farrowing crate. Bryan made a few modifications to it. This video describes what alterations were made and why. This hopefully shows viewers how to make a sheep headgate.
