Описание к видео How Mumbai's Shipbuilders Created the World's Best Warships | Panel Discussion |

Max City Valley of Words Literature Festival was held in Mumbai on 01 & 02 March, 2025. India’s only litfest which discusses geopolitical, business and economical ‘Issues That Engage Us As A Nation.' The festival features eminent authors and personalities over two days of discussions at the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA), a heritage institution in Mumbai, and in the prestigious Kitabkhana.
Discover the extraordinary maritime history of Mumbai and Thane that shaped India's naval and commercial power. This fascinating discussion reveals how ships built at Bombay Dockyard were so superior that the British Royal Navy purchased them for their fleet. The panel uncovers how the teak from Basin Hills produced ships that outlasted European vessels by decades and how the training ship Dufferin created India's modern seafaring tradition despite colonial skepticism. From Marco Polo's 1290 AD descriptions of Thane as a "fantastic town of trade" to the Bombay Dockyard's construction of HMS Trincomalee (the second oldest warship still afloat today), this session reclaims Mumbai's rightful place in maritime history.
