The 19th century was a period during which World Expositions thrived. The French held four World Expo's in Paris in 1844, 1855, 1867, 1878 and 1889 as well as the French Industrial Exposition of 1844. Other World fairs were held 6 times in other countries during that century. The famous Eiffel Tower was built for the World fair in 1889.

A small row occurred when in June of 1892, the Germans announced that they were planning an international exposition in 1896 in Berlin. France was rather 'pissed off' to use todays terms and after some diplomatic skirmishes, Berlin backed down in favour of a French World Fair in Paris in the same year 1900. Paris, at the time often seen as the cultural capital of the World, was deemed more cultural, global and suitable to organize this world stage.

The period between the 1889 and 1900 Expo was one of relative peace, although France suffered a number of setbacks like the failure to construct the Panama canal, the loss of Egypt to Britain and the Dreyfuss affair in 1898. All three topics are interesting historic reading material.

Alike previous World fairs in Paris the heart of the 1900 Exposition Universelle was setup around the area of the Champs De Mars where also the Eiffel tower had been built before 1889. It was opened on 15 April 1900.

In this film our time machine enables us to visit the entire 1900 Paris Expo. Over a 100 photographs and life-like drawings were meticulously A.I. plus hand-colorized and then brought to live by creating motion using the latest image-to-video A.I. software.
The results are truly stunning. It should be noted that this A.I. technology is still in its infancy and plenty of flaws still need to be addressed. Try to see through these flaws and just enjoy this unique window into the past. Especially faces require the A.I. to be improved in the near future.

The Paris Expo of 1900 probably had the largest impact on this great city. The atmosphere in Paris still breathes the remnants of this cultural highlight at the very beginning of the 20th century, now one and a quarter century ago.

In effect the 1900 Paris Expo was a huge success. In total 23 European nations, 17 "foreign" nations and 15 French colonies participated, involving 83.000 exhibitors and had about 50 million visitors in its period of existance between 15 april 1900 and 12 november 1900. On some peak days more than 100,000 visitors passed through its entrance gate.
The introduction of Electricity was the star of the show.

To sum up: The 1900 World Fair at Paris was an impressive spectacle and admirable achievement. It was the epithamy of the miracles of modern technological progress in that period of time that followed the late 19th century Industrial revolution. It demonstrated the abilities, achievements and advancements of the French nation and till this day is something that the French can be extremely proud of. It's no wonder that France for long time had an air of chauvimism and superiority in Europe.

This very beginning of the 20e century was characterized by optimism, innovation and a celebration of human achievement.

The focus of this exhibition was on World harmony. Sadly this period of relative global tranquility did not last for long, considering the start of WWI only 14 years later. It took until 1937 before another fair in Paris was held.
