Peace Park's 30th Anniversary

Peace Park just marked its 30th anniversary, and it’s more than just a skate spot in Montreal—it’s the heart of the city’s street skating scene. Back in the day, skaters got hit with $600 fines, and the area was known for violence, but things changed. In 2013, after the Peace Park documentary premiered, skateboarding was seen as part of the solution to the park’s problems. David Boots and others pushed for a pilot project, and in 2015, skating was officially legalized, making Peace Park the first public park to do so. This year also marks 10 years since that historic moment! Peace Park’s story has inspired cities worldwide to embrace skateboarding, showing how it can bring positive energy to urban spaces.
