During a White House press briefing on December 11, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt accused CNN White House correspondent Kaitlan Collins of trying to "push untrue narratives about the president" after she asked a question about inflation and affordability in the United States.

Shortly afterward, another journalist attempted to clarify inflation rates for September, which Leavitt stated were 2.5%.

An October news release from the Bureau of Labor Statistics says that "The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) increased 3.0 percent over the last 12 months."
