Kanchanjunga Express Accident: At Least 8 Killed, 25 Injured

At least eight persons died and around 25 others were injured after a goods train collided with the Sealdah-bound Kanchanjunga Express near Rangapani station in West Bengal on June 17. Rescue operations were launched right after the tragic accident at the spot, about seven km from North Bengal’s New Jalpaiguri station, and the injured persons were being shifted to nearby hospitals. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the unforeseen situation and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the family members of the deceased. Meanwhile Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw took stock of relief operations following the train accident.
