Guru Nanak Dev Ji visited Rameshwaram during his second spiritual travels on his way to Sri Lanka he visited here. King of Rameshwaram was passing this area when Guru Nanak Dev Ji was living here, horses of the king refused to move. When the king asked his riders to check they told him about Guru Nanak's visit. King met Guru Nanak Dev Ji and was elated, he gifted the land to Guru Nanak Dev Ji and this is where the Gurudwara is today.

He also shows you the place where Guru Ji's footprints are visible and also takes you to the well which Guru Ji got made looking at the plight of local people.
