জার্সি গরুকে বলা হয় ব্যয় সংকোচনী গরু। যেসব অঞ্চলে গো-খাদ্যের মূল্য অধিক হয় এবং গরু পালন যেখানে চ্যালেনজিং সেখানে জার্সি গরু পালন সবচেয়ে উত্তম সিদ্ধান্ত। জার্সি গরুর দুধের দাম যেহেতু অন্য গরুর তুলনায় বেশি তাই তুলনামূলক কম দুধ উৎপাদন হবার পরেও জার্সি গরু সবচেয়ে লাভজনক গরু। আমেরিকার USDA এর করা এক গবেষণায় দেখা গেছে জার্সি গরু পালন অন্য গরু পালনের তুলনায় ২০% বেশি লাভজনক। তাই ২০১৪ সালে ‘মার্কিন জার্সি কাটল এসোসিয়েশন’ ১১৮,০০০ জার্সি গরু পালনের জন্য রেকর্ড করে যা আমেরিকার ১৪৬ বছরের পেশাদার জার্সি গরু পালনের ইতিহাসে সর্বোচ্চ। জার্সি গরু উচ্চ প্রজনক্ষম হওয়ায় গর্ভধারণ নিয়ে কোনো সমস্যা হয়না এবং বাচ্চা প্রসব নিয়ে ও কোনো সমস্যা হয়না।২০০৫ সালে কানাডায় এক গবেষণায় দেখা গেছে ৯৬% প্রথম প্রসবে ভেট ডক্টরদের কোনো প্রকার সাহায্য দরকার হয় নাই, যা দ্বিতীয় বছর ৯৯%। ফ্লোরিডা তে করা আরেক গবেষণায় দেখা গেছে ২২% জার্সি গরু জীবনকালে মাস্টাটিস আক্রান্ত হয় যা হোলস্টাইন ফ্রিজিয়ান ক্ষেত্রে ৫১%। খুর শক্ত কালো ক্ষুর হওয়ায় এই জাতের গরুর এফ এম ডি বা খুরারোগ হয়না বললেই চলে। আর যেকোনো আবহাওয়াতে সহজেই মানিয়ে নেয়ার ক্ষমতা তো আছেই। তাই জার্সি গরুকে বলা হয় অর্থনৈতিক বিবেচনায় সবচেয়ে ভালো গরুর জাত।
