On May 12, police arrested a 13-year-old boy they suspected of plotting an act of mass violence at Rhodes Middle School on San Antonio’s West Side. In a bizarre twist, Pardo, the teenager’s mother, was arrested on a charge of aiding in the commission of terrorism, a felony. Police say she supported her son’s plans to attack the school by purchasing ammunition, magazines and tactical gear for the boy.

The terrorism charges against the boy and Pardo are the first such charges filed in Bexar County.
