One of the key advantages to using a Hybrid Piano or using a MIDI keyboard in conjunction with a home recording studio is the ability to play your music through a Virtual Piano, which costs a tiny fraction of the cost of the acoustic pianos they emulate. And the sound of a virtual piano in recent years has evolved to be so incredibly realistic, that you would be challenged to tell the difference between a recording of the real acoustic piano, and a Virtual Piano. That's because many Virtual Pianos are comprised of 20,000 or more actual recordings of the acoustic pianos they model, so you are actually hearing a real recording. The software bridges the gap between what you are playing, in the form of MIDI information, and the sound of the piano, in the form of sample recordings.

This opens up a whole new world of possibilities. Not only can you have a multi-million dollar collection of dream pianos for less than $1,000, but you can also have access to unusual pianos like David Klavin's Giant (450i, an upright piano that is 3 stories tall), or his unique Una Corda piano. In addition, you can select the listening perspective, whether you want to stick your head inside the piano case, or hear it from the piano bench, or from the side, or from the audience perspective.

And then you can also control the size of the room you are listening to the piano in. You can choose a cathedral, a concert hall, a small piano parlor, or even the bathroom!
