This is no exception for Akram’s family—a family that has lived with these conditions for years and has found its own way to carry on. For cooking and heating food, they depend on gas cylinders; cylinders that, once empty, take comfort away from the home with them. Today, it is Akram’s sons’ turn. Early in the morning, before the sun reaches the middle of the sky, they hoist the empty cylinder onto their shoulders and set off on the long walk to the village—a path that is neither short nor easy, yet for them it is part of everyday life. Step by step, along the winding path, sweat gathers on their foreheads and their breathing grows heavier. The metal cylinder carries more than its physical weight; it bears the weight of responsibility, of the family’s needs, and of an effort that often goes unseen. With every step, the distance between the tent and the village shortens, and the hope of returning with a full cylinder pulls them forward.
