Bugatti cars were well known for their design beauty and for the large number of races that they have won.
Today on the Monster Hobbies Model Car Garage we are going to open the lid on this amazing 1927 Bugatti Royal Coupe Napoleon by Italeri. This is a model car unboxing video.
The Bugatti Royal was the largest civilian car ever produced by any company to this day.
Originally, this model kit came out in 1984 from Italeri and has had two other returns over the years, one by Italeri in 2008 and one under the Testor's box lid also in 1984. The Testors 1927 Bugatti Royal Coupe Napoleon was offered to the American market place.
Although Italeri never had a series like the MPC Gangbusters series of model kits with figures, they did offer a lot of the museum series model car line-up which were faithful reproductions of the cars found around the world.
Let's start this review off by looking at the highly detailed 12.763 litre (778 cu in) straight-eight engine that comes in the Italeri 705 1927 Bugatti Royal Coupe Napoleon. This motor consists of 13 parts which consist of the right and left hand sides of the engine block, cylinder head, carburetor, intake and exhaust manifolds, manifold shroud, fan and fan belt, oil pump, oil line, and fuel pump. Quite a beautiful piece when it's all put together! - the transmission is not molded to the engine block, but follows the European mounting which was separate from the engine block via a driveshaft.
The 1927 Bugatti Royal Coupe Napoleon model kit has an excellent chassis that consists of separate frame rails, springs, rear differential, non-positional multi-piece front axle, and exhaust pipes.
The wheel assembly consist of 4 pieces. Chrome outer wheel, tire, wheel back, and brake drum. Many European cars of this era did not have white wall tires like their American counterparts did. Again, take your time with these wheels so as not to glue them in a way that will not make them turn. You also get 4-piece spare tire for the back of the vehicle.
The chassis drops onto the frame with ease and consists of the fenders, a 3 part radiator with chrome radiator shroud, and radiator hoses which fit on the engine nicely.
The body and interior consist of many parts. The interior is built up from many separate pieces, as is the body. the right and left hand side of the body include the inner door panes as well as the lower hood sides, but not the cowl, back of car or roof. This is very different from the American and Japanese designed kits with a single cast body shell.
The hood top is a one piece affair that you can remove. It is a shame that the sides of the hood can't come off as mentioned above, but it still gives you a glimpse at that great Bugatti engine underneath. The chrome headlights and bumpers look fantastic as well!
If you are looking for a classic car to display on it's own, or are looking for a model for a 1920's European royalty addition to your collection, then this Italeri 705 1927 Bugatti Royal Coupe Napoleon model kit is the kit for you! It will make a cool addition to your model car garage.
