Australian Muscle Car Sales proudly presents for sale a 1972 Chrysler VH Valiant Charger E49 Track Pack in Vitamin C.

Timing played an important role in ensuring that the few E49 Valiant Chargers that were built by Chrysler actually made it out the factory door. While the "Bullets on Wheels" supercar scare was breaking in the media in June 1972, Chrysler's new supercars quietly filtered through to the dealers. Ford's XA GTHO Phase 4 and Holden's XU2 V8 were not so lucky.

In total, only 149 E49 Valiant Chargers were built. At the time, the E49 was the fastest accelerating Australian muscle car of all, capable of turning the standing quarter mile in 14.1 seconds and clocking 0-60 mph in just 6.1 seconds - no mean feat for a six. That's right. Faster than a Phase 3 GTHO Falcon. And interestingly no other 6 cylinder car came close to the mighty E49 Charger in Performance until Ford's XR6 Turbo hit the showroom floors some 36 year later in 2008!! The power increase over the E38 was palpable, thanks to a mild cam grind and the addition of the new four-speed gearbox.

Despite a fraction of the race budget of Holden and Ford, Chrysler under the stewardship of the young engineers John Ellis managed a very respectable result in the 1972 Hardie Ferodo 500 at Bathurst with E49s finishing 3rd and fourth in the hands of Doug Chivas/Damon Beck and Leo Geoghegan behind HDT's Peter Brock in the LJ Torana GTR XU-1 in first and John French in the Bryan Byrt XY GT-HO Phase III in second.

For sale is a rare opportunity to own a Vitamin C E49 Valiant Charger. Running the all matching numbers 302 bhp 4.3L straight six fed by those wonderful triple Weber carburetors, shifting cogs through the factory Borg Warner 4 speed gearbox and riding on the original W35 alloy rims this E49 will get your pulse racing.

An older closed door respray, the Charger presents in very good condition throughout. The all matching numbers E49 engine has been professionally maintained and runs and sounds beautiful. The Webers are genuine Day One with correct part numbers ending in 55, 55, 56. The famous extractors lead through to the 2 1/4" twin exhaust and then through to genuine chrome factory exhaust tips. The D20 4 speed is in perfect condition and runs through to the 3.5:1 Suregrip rear end. And the E49 is factory spec'd with the fast ratio 16:1 steering box.

The interior is all original, including carpet, hoodlining, steering wheel and gauges. And the factory chalk markings indicating the options to be fitted on the assembly line are there under the crashpad. In the boot there is the standard 68 Litre "small tank" with the original cardboard cover and the original spare and jack tools are still in place. The Charger is riding on the factory W35 14x7" alloy rims with Falken FK-06U 225/60 R14 tyres and the E49 is factory spec'd with heavy duty discs and hubs.
