Nyx, the goddess of night, is an ancient, eldritch deity, one of the first to come into existence. Even Zeus feared her. With her mate, Erebos (darkness), she spawned such entities as Hypnos (sleep), Thanatos (peaceful death), the Keres (violent death), Lyssa (madness), the Oneiroi (dreams), Eris (discord), Apate (deceit), Oizys (woe), Nemesis (vengeance), Moros (doom), the Erinyes (Furies)and also Aither (the stratosphere) and Hemera (day). She mostly only appears in creation stories, after which she steps back and does her job, covering the earth in her dusky cloak whenever the sun goes down, and spending the rest of the time living in Tartarus with her husband and many of her children.
