Beauty And The Beast director Bill Condon on Disney's first ever gay characters

You may have heard the news. Disney is remaking Beauty And The Beast.

Now, before you start complaining about nostalgia or get in a strop and start throwing lifelike candlesticks, crusty old clocks and polite-sounding teapots all over the place, relax; there's nothing to be worried about.

Anyway, it's already happened. Sure there's a poster and everything.

The remake of the much-loved 1991 animated classic is being released in Ireland on 17 March AKA St. Patrick's Day, so when we sat down with the not-beastly-at-all director of the film, Bill Condon (Dreamgirls, Kinsey, some Twilight films or other), we had one question and one question only for him; what persuasive message do you have for the people of Ireland ahead of the release of Beauty And The Beast on St. Patrick's Day?

We actually had way more questions for him than just that one, but that was definitely the most pressing.

You can check out the rest of the questions below, where he also opened up about the fact that, amazingly, this 2017 remake of Beauty And The Beast marks the very first time Disney has featured openly gay characters in a feature length production and, as if that wasn't groundbreaking enough, this new version also features the very first and second interracial kisses in a Disney film.

Truly historic cinematic moments.

So sit back, relax, be our guest and enjoy...
