"Christ is risen!" - The Paschal Greeting in 30 languages + Elven!

Описание к видео "Christ is risen!" - The Paschal Greeting in 30 languages + Elven!

This video highlights how the paschal greeting ("Christ is risen!") is said in 30 languages, including J.R.R. Tolkien's conlag Quenya (one of the languages popularly known as High Elven).

I made this video thinking of my friends, uni mates, and wonderful people I've met throughout my travels. In fact, I did a rough estimate and the video should have included around 54 languages excluding varieties of English, Spanish, German, etc.

This video is part of a series entitled "The Linguist's Progress".

I'm not a fluent speaker of all these languages, let alone a polyglot, but I enjoy learning the phonology and basic syntax of a language. I apologise for mispronouncing or misspelling some of these phrases... I've noticed some flagrant ones during post production. Oopsie.

▪ I used IPA (The International Phonetic Alphabet), Forvo, and Google Translate for the phonology and various online sources for the greeting itself. The two main ones are orthodoxwiki and a book by Nicolae Sfetcu (2015): "Paşti (Paşte) - Cea mai importantă sărbătoare creştină".
▪ I used Wikimedia Commons for the maps and works of art:
"Christ and St Mary Magdalene at the Tomb" (1638) by Rembrandt
"The Orthodox Icon of the Resurrection" aka Christ's Descent into Hades or Anastasis.
"The Ascension" (1801) by Benjamin West
"The Incredulity of Saint Thomas" (1601-1602) by Caravaggio
