Quarry Story: History of the Quincy Quarries, Quincy, MA

Описание к видео Quarry Story: History of the Quincy Quarries, Quincy, MA

The 22-acre Quincy Quarries Reservation, just south of downtown Boston, comprises three former granite quarries, the largest of which has mostly been filled with material from Boston’s Big Dig highway project. From 1825 through the early 1900s, quarrying was a major industry in Quincy, which at one point supported over 50 active quarries and innumerable granite-finishing shops.

In this short film excerpted from the Quincy, MA, episode of Explore New England Season 2, Tom Bonomi of the Quincy Quarry & Granite Workers' Museum, speaks about the history of the city's granite-quarrying industry, the granite railway, and the decline of the industry in Quincy during World War II.
