In this video, I explain why taking home blood pressure readings is a more accurate method. How to best take readings and tips on how to record these because our blood pressure is not always accurately measured at your doctor's clinic.

The days when people go to see a doctor and suddenly are diagnosed with high blood pressure after a one-off, are long gone. I often see patients in my clinic who may have had high blood pressure during their hospital appointment but once we check it at home it is far more acceptable. Why might this be?

Well, it's a little phenomenon called white coat syndrome. When we see doctors or healthcare staff, we may have higher BPs than we might normally have at home. So it is best to either use a 24-hour blood pressure monitor or home BP readings for 2 weeks - as a far more accurate measure of your blood pressure at home.
