Around 700 million years ago, the planet was plunged into a deep freeze. Temperatures dropped so low that glaciers covered almost the entire surface, even near the equator. Earth became a frozen wasteland, sealed in by a thick layer of ice — possibly for millions of years.

Scientists believe this may have been triggered by a series of volcanic eruptions, continental shifts, or changes in Earth’s atmosphere that reduced greenhouse gases like CO₂.

But the most incredible part? When the ice finally melted, the sudden change in environment may have kickstarted the evolution of complex life — leading to what scientists call the Cambrian Explosion.
