A fair amount of progressive elements were intact, making the intro a bit easier stitch together, along with fixing all of the other issues (like the radio chatter/skips) with the track. The tail, on the other hand, was implemented by using another recording of this track. If I remember right, there were two recordings of the same mix that the song was pulled from. The other mix was from a radio stream, which was in much worse quality, but served as the final piece of the puzzle. All in all, the result turned out pretty good.
