Konya Vlog 🇹🇷 | Visiting Rumi’s Tomb, Learning About Sufism & Experiencing the Spiritual Heart of Türkiye
In today’s Türkiye vlog, we spent our first day in Konya, one of the most spiritual cities in Turkey and the home of Mevlana Rumi and Sufism. As a British Muslim traveling through Türkiye, I wanted to explore the Islamic side of Konya and see why this city is known as the spiritual heart of the country.
We started the day walking to the Tomb of Rumi (Mevlana Museum). Along the way, I shared some history about Rumi, his childhood, and the roots of Sufism — the expression of Zikr and spirituality within Islam. When we arrived, the site immediately felt special. Beautiful gardens filled with roses surrounded the complex, and the mosque facing the tomb added to the peaceful atmosphere.
Heading inside the tomb, I was blown away. There were Muslims making dua everywhere, walls covered in incredible Islamic calligraphy, and even old Qurans dating back to the 16th century. The entire space was filled with Islamic history and a deep sense of spirituality. The outer buildings were just as stunning, with small museums explaining the history of the Sufis and their role in spreading Islam.
After leaving the tomb, we explored the local market where I bought some trousers so I could visit a mosque to pray. We found a small local masjid and I joined the brothers for Zuhr prayer. It was a simple, humble place, but such a beautiful reminder of how connected Muslims are everywhere in the world.
Later, we tried some famous Konya street food from a small family-run shop — cheap, authentic, and so tasty. After that, we walked to the Mevlana Cultural Centre to see the famous Sufi Whirling Dervish show. While waiting for the show, my phone ran out of data, so I ran to the Hilton Hotel, uploaded the vlog, and made it back just in time.
The Sufi ceremony itself was unlike anything I’ve seen before. It was slow, deeply spiritual, and filled with the remembrance of Allah. They even recited Qur’an during the show, which made it such a moving experience.
This first day in Konya perfectly captured the Islamic heritage, halal travel, and spiritual beauty of Türkiye. Whether you’re a Muslim traveler or just curious about Turkey’s culture, Konya is a place you can’t miss.
