Описание к видео WilCo Attorney Says A Raise For Him Would Help His Employees

http://www.keyetv.com/
A Williamson County department is asking for raises even after 40 percent of the department left their jobs in under a year.Employees of the Williamson County Attorney's Office say the county doesn't pay enough. Even the county attorney -- who has a six figure income -- has asked for more cash. The median income for a family in Williamson County is around $60,000. The county attorney makes more than double that.So when he asked for an even higher salary, it raised some eyebrows. But he says that's what he wanted to happen. And a salary study that showed deputies were underpaid said most other county employees are underpaid too.One of the County Attorney's employees told him just how much. She said you realize you are paying me $2 more an hour than the person that took my order at Dairy Queen this morning, says Williamson county attorney Dee Hobbs Jr.I can't come to work with a clear conscience and look my employees in the eye knowing the struggles they have outside the office and not do something, he says. What he did was drastic. The Williamson County Commissioners Court recently approved a raise for Hobbs that would take him to more than $138,000 a year -- but he filed a grievance asking for $157,000, based on the county's compensation theoryIf you are a supervisor the person you supervise cannot be within 20 to 25 percent of your salary, he says. That means his own salary would have to increase to give his employees the raise he says they deserve. The grievance committee said no.There is still a chance workers will get raises based on that study but the commissioners are still working on the budget. Hobbs wants them to consider all options before a final decision is made, later this month.By Melanie Lofton
