Описание к видео Sliding Doors Moments That Change Your Life with Jennie Becker

Have you ever wondered what would have happened differently in your life if you had caught that train that you missed, or gone on the blind date you were too nervous to say yes to, or any of the thousands of tiny moments and decisions that have the potential to change the direction of our entire future?

Well, that’s what this week’s Conversation is all about.

Jennie Becker had no clue how much her own life would change when she created a podcast called Sliding Doors, named after her favourite film. With no contact book bulging with celebs and no idea what equipment to use or where to begin, Jennie took something that started as a simple conversation with her sister and turned it into a heart-warming side hustle that not only fills her cup outside of work, but has led to her putting together a 25th anniversary celebration of the film with the stars themselves!

In our conversation we discuss:

⭐️ The joy of finding that ‘thing’ that makes you happy, and as a by-product makes you better at your job, and a better friend and daughter. Sometimes we don’t realise the snowball effect that doing something that simply makes you happy can have on your life. As Jennie explains, this project has helped her find more moments of joy, and made her look at small things in her own life with fresh eyes, after hearing the life stories and Sliding Doors moments of her guests.

⭐️ Turning a ‘what if’ into something concrete – where and how to start. Just begin! Too often we put off starting something because we are put off by the idea that someone else has already done this thing. We compare our product or offering to theirs, which may be five or ten years down the line, and worry that our starting point is not going to be as polished, but really we just need to start and accept that it is going to evolve. And that’s not only OK, but it’s also all part of the process.

⭐️ How we all have ‘Sliding Doors’ moments in our lives, where a simple decision has changed the course of our history. We very rarely take the time to sit and think about those moments and marvel at them. When was the last time you thought about decisions you have made that could have been so different if you had chosen X instead of Y?

⭐️ How the term ‘Sliding Doors’ came about from split-second moment in Peter Howitt’s life (the film’s writer and director) when he missed a tube train by seconds, and it made him wonder what could have happened differently in his life if he’d caught it. He jotted down the words Sliding Doors as a starting point of an idea for a film, and history (plus a term that is now used around the world to signify a seemingly inconsequential moment where our life can change) was made.

⭐️ How a google search forged a friendship, and became an audio documentary of an iconic movie. Jennie’s passion for the film meant she wanted the 25th anniversary of it to be celebrated in some way, so she found the contact details for the Peter Howitt, contacted him in Canada where he now lives, and pitched him the idea of commemorating the movie by making an audio documentary about it. He loved the idea, which led to Jennie interviewing the stars John Hannah and Jean Tripplehorn, plus the producer Philippa Braithwaite and editor John Smith about the process of pulling the film together.

⭐️ The celebration culminated in a special screening of the film in Notting Hill, where Jennie interviewed John Hannah, Peter Howitt and Philippa Braithwaite on stage, in front of a celebrity audience plus members of the production team and crew from the film. A pinch me moment that only came about because of Jennie’s dedication and kind nature, proving that you don’t always have to fight and push for what you want, simply taking small steps and approaching people with gentleness can still have powerful results.

It's a wonderful conversation about the small things we do that can have life changing results…
