Ortigueira Celtic Music Festival 2018......... Festival Internacional do Mundo Celta de Ortigueira

The Ortigueira Festival celebrates the Celtic cultural roots of Galicia and in fact all of Western Europe. It's a showcase of the music and dance of the Gallegos, the people Galicia. Of course it's no accident that Gaelic and Gallego sound the same.... Balkan Celtic seafarers moved across the Mediterranean and into western Spain and Portugal 3,000 years ago, and by 2400 BC were mining or copper on Ireland's Ross Island. Galicia was one of the jumping off points for the Gaelic culture that came to be in Ireland, Scotland, Britain and France.

The Escolas de Gaeta, (many local towns have their own schools of the Galician bagpipes) send their bands to Ortigueira to play and march, and they are present throughout the festival, along with Celtic bands from around the world, and other musicians from around Spain. The Gaeta is used for many public events in Galicia, and you are as likely to hear it on the 5 o'clock news forecast as at a concert.

I attended the festival this summer of 2018 and recorded the music when I could. This video also shows a bit of the Galician countryside, which reminds me in many ways of northwest Oregon.

O Festival Ortigueira celebra as raíces culturais celtas de Galicia e de feito toda a Europa occidental. É un escaparate da música e danza dos galegos, o pobo galego. Por suposto, non é un accidente que o gaélico e o galego fosen o mesmo ... Os mariñeiros celtas balcánicos trasladáronse ao Mediterráneo e ao oeste de España e Portugal hai 3.000 anos, e no ano 2400 aC foron mineros ou cobre na illa de Irlanda de Ross.
