The music to this movie was the last film score Korngold did, and how well! He started his career in film music business with arranging and adapting material of a classical composer... and so he ends it.
He was not allowed to conduct this music by his doctor but, although Melichar had been asked by Korngold to take the musical direction, Korngold wanted to conduct atleast the less exhausting parts, but actually he was driven by his passion so deeply, that he actually 'must' do a lot of the music and he did, with his usual energy and fire, his wife wrote in her book.
