Formatting a a memory card / drive might not do exactly what you think - contrary to what some believe, formatting media storage doesn’t always erase the files themselves. Instead, what usually happens, is the directory (the directions or map of how to reach those files) gets removed.

Using a recovery software like Recoverit can help reestablish those pathways, and allow normal file explorers to once again access your data / files!

I think this is an especially great option to have around if you are shooting on a camera like the Sony A7C, which only has a single SD card slot!

SOMETHING TO NOTE: If you ever do accidentally delete or format your card, DON’T take any more photos / videos with it! That will overwrite some or all of the “lost” data, making it more difficult (or impossible) to recover the those files.

I’ve talked about this software before, but Recoverit has actually solved my problems in the past, and I want you guys to at least know about it, in case you ever need to use it too.
