Bayham Old Abbey is a dramatic 13th-century Premonstratensian monastery ruin set in the scenic River Teise valley on the Kent–Sussex border. Founded around 1208 through the merger of two smaller abbeys, it still features parts of the church, chapter house, and a 14th-century gatehouse.

The abbey was closed in 1525 by Cardinal Wolsey to fund new colleges, sparking a rare act of local defiance when residents briefly reclaimed it. After the dissolution, the site passed through various owners before being bought by Sir John Pratt in 1714. In the 18th century, the ruins were incorporated into a romantic landscaped park designed by Humphry Repton.

Today, the site is managed by English Heritage and is open seasonally from March to October. Visitors can explore spacious grounds, picnic spots, and gentle walking paths. Dogs on leads are welcome, and the terrain is partly accessible for wheelchairs. Bayham Old Abbey offers a unique mix of medieval architecture, Tudor history, and landscaped beauty.
