Daylight's Last Stand: The 2012 Deschutes Steam Special (reedit)

In October of 2012, steam power returned to the Deschutes River Canyon in spectacular fashion as Southern Pacific 4-8-4 #4449 took charge of the Oregon Rail Heritage Foundation's "Deschutes Steam Special" excursion!

Over the next-to-last weekend before Halloween 2012, the big engine pulled a 12-car train, from Portland to Bend, Oregon and return via the scenic gorges of the Columbia and Deschutes Rivers.

Northwest Daylight Productions was there to capture both days of mainline steam action along the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway's Columbia River and Oregon Trunk Subdivisions. With good weather and stunning scenery, the trips were a joy to witness! Also included is the history and current home and status of the locomotive and BNSF and UP freight traffic filmed along the right-away.
