The Farewells is set against the background of the Antwerp docks. In this psychological drama, based on a symbolist novel by Ivo Michiels, we meet Pierre Wesselmans (Julien Schoenaerts), a radiotelegrapher on a ship. Pierre is part of a secret government mission and therefore has to report each day for a possible departure. Each day he bids farewell to his wife Laure (Petra Laseur) and children. But his departure is constantly postponed. Pierre gets low-spirited and finds his life meaningless. The Farewells is the story of the uncertainty, loneliness, inner emptiness and fear of Pierre and his family.
