This is 3 miles west of Welton with Broomfleet LC a mile further on. About twice as many trains use this crossing as vehicles. It doesn’t have the right gates. Until the 1970’s there were 4 tracks here and originally there must have been four proper gates that blocked those tracks when open to traffic or animals. They’d have been operated from the signal box like at Goxhill. When the tracks were lifted the mechanism to operate the gates may have been damaged or it was simply removed and the gates were reduced to two to make it easier to operate. They look as if they may have been 2nd hand gates from somewhere else. Apparently the railway bought this land on the condition that the level crossing that would be needed here had to be manned.
