WorldCom and MCI on Monday (10/11) announced a US$37 billion merger of their telecommunications companies, the largest in US corporate history.
If approved by stockholders and regulators, the deal would create the second largest US long-distance telephone company, with annual revenues of more than US$30 billion.
MCI Communications Corporation agreed on Sunday to be purchased by WorldCom for US$37 billion.

MCI has made the best possible choice in it's alignment with WorldCom. The two companies have complimentary strengths. But I think most important if you look at the heritage of the two companies they both come from entreprenurial roots, they both have had to singularly win every customer that has signed up
with either of us, they are both of a heritage of innovative services, they both compete across all markets. We're gonna be the second largest carrier of communications traffic in the United States ..having some 25 percent of the market, the second largest carrier of international traffic in the world, we're also the largest carrier of internet traffic and services.";
